IDF Chief Declares ‘No Ceasefire’ in Southern Lebanon

IDF Chief Zamir declares "no ceasefire" in southern Lebanon, ordering continued operations against Hezbollah and indefinite occupation of security zone until northern communities are secure. Statement authorizes strikes beyond Litani River and treats truce as non-binding.

Israeli Defense Forces Chief of Staff Lieutenant General Eyal Zamir declared Wednesday that “there is no ceasefire” in southern Lebanon, stating troops will continue operating against Hezbollah until long-term security for Israel’s northern communities is ensured. The statement effectively nullifies the ten-day truce that took effect April 16.
During a visit to Taybeh, Zamir emphasized that IDF forces have positioned along a defensive line preventing direct fire on Israeli communities and “may be required to remain on it.” He declared Israel “will not tolerate attacks and fire on our communities, and we will not leave until long-term security” is achieved.
The IDF chief instructed troops to maintain freedom of action across the entire operational area, including beyond the Yellow Line and north of the Litani River. “Any threat, anywhere, to our communities or our forces, will be removed,” he stated, authorizing strikes against infrastructure and personnel without geographic restriction.
Zamir acknowledged forces are not currently advancing beyond established positions but emphasized “there is no restriction on destroying infrastructure and killing terrorists.” The posture treats the ceasefire as non-binding military guidance rather than enforceable diplomatic commitment.
The declaration follows Hezbollah rocket and drone attacks against Israeli troops and Zamir’s earlier approval of new battle plans for both Lebanon and Iran. It suggests Israeli leadership has determined the American-mediated truce failed to achieve security objectives and military operations must continue regardless of diplomatic frameworks.
