Federal agents swarmed the Torrance, California neighborhood of Cole Allen, the 31-year-old man accused of attacking the White House Correspondents’ Dinner with multiple weapons. Law enforcement conducted an extensive search of the suspect’s residence as the investigation expanded beyond Washington.m

Allen was apprehended Saturday night after attempting to charge a security checkpoint outside the Washington Hilton ballroom where President Trump and senior officials were attending the annual press dinner. He was armed with a shotgun, handgun, and multiple knives. A Secret Service agent was struck but survived due to his bulletproof vest.
A federal judge in the Central District of California is expected to sign a search warrant, the U.S. Attorney’s Office confirmed. The cross-country investigative coordination suggests authorities are examining whether Allen had accomplices, online radicalization patterns, or materials indicating broader plot.
Allen’s background as a Caltech graduate and tutor at C2 Education has puzzled investigators seeking motive. He told law enforcement he wanted to shoot Trump administration officials, though not specifically the President. His “Teacher of the Month” award in December 2024 contrasts sharply with the violent attack.
The FBI search aims to uncover communications, weapons purchases, and ideological materials that could explain how a California educator traveled to Washington and attempted mass violence at one of the capital’s highest-profile events. Charges include assault on a federal officer and firearm violations during a crime of violence.
