WHCD Suspect Charged With Trump Assassination Attempt

Cole Allen charged with attempting to assassinate President Trump at WHCD as officials reveal train travel from California and manifesto signed with online alias. Secret Service agent saved by vest as investigation continues into motivation and security protocols.

Cole Allen appeared in federal court Monday charged with attempting to assassinate President Trump during the White House Correspondents’ Dinner attack, as officials revealed new details about his meticulous preparations. The 31-year-old California man did not enter a plea to charges including firearms violations and interstate transport of weapons for felonious purposes.
Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche, FBI Director Kash Patel, and U.S. Attorney Jeanine Pirro announced the charges at a Justice Department press conference. Allen traveled by train from Los Angeles, checked into the Washington Hilton the day before the dinner, and stormed a security checkpoint with a shotgun and handgun. An FBI affidavit confirmed Allen fired his weapon during the incident, though ballistics analysis continues to determine whether his round or law enforcement fire struck the Secret Service agent saved by his bulletproof vest.
Investigators seized multiple devices from Allen’s California home and hotel room, where writings were discovered alongside the emailed manifesto signed “Cole ‘coldForce’ ‘Friendly Federal Assassin’ Allen.” Blanche stated motivation beyond the manifesto remains under investigation, acknowledging inflammatory rhetoric as contributing factor.
The Secret Service faces scrutiny over event security, which many of the 2,500 attendees described as lax. Director Sean Curran briefed Senate Judiciary leaders, with Senator Dick Durbin stating he saw “no indication” of security lapse despite the breach. Patel defended federal response, stating agents “did exactly what they were trained to do” and the bureau established immediate mobile command and Quantico laboratory analysis.
