Apple is preparing a monumental shift in its artificial intelligence strategy, reportedly planning to completely replace its legacy digital assistant, Siri, with a new, advanced chatbot codenamed “Campos”. According to a report by *Bloomberg*, the move comes as executives in Cupertino have been forced to reconsider their initial roadmap due to the explosive popularity of rival platforms like Anthropic’s Claude, Google’s Gemini, and OpenAI’s ChatGPT.

The new Siri chatbot is slated for integration into iOS 27, iPadOS 27, and macOS 27. Unlike the current iteration of Siri, which often relies on scripted responses and limited command execution, “Campos” will feature the same fluid, natural language conversation capabilities found in top-tier LLMs. Users will access the bot via the traditional “Siri” wake word or by holding the side button, but the experience will be fundamentally different. Rather than a voice assistant, it will function as a deeply integrated AI agent capable of multimodal interaction.

Powered by Google Gemini?
In a surprising twist, reports indicate that Apple plans to power the chatbot with a custom model based on Google Gemini, signaling a potential deepening of the partnership between the two tech giants. This foundation will allow the new Siri to search the web, generate content (including images and code), summarize dense information, and analyze uploaded files with high proficiency.

Deep Integration and “Screen Awareness”
The standout feature of the Campos project is its proposed level of system integration. Apple is designing the chatbot to have **”screen awareness”**—the ability to view open windows and interpret on-screen content in real-time. This would allow users to ask questions about a document they are currently reading or tell Siri to “edit this photo” without leaving the app. The bot will integrate into core Apple apps like Photos, Mail, Messages, and Music, executing complex cross-app tasks that current assistants cannot handle.

Privacy vs. Memory
One area where Apple may diverge from its competitors is memory. While Claude and ChatGPT leverage past conversations to personalize future interactions, Apple is reportedly debating limiting Siri’s long-term memory to adhere to its strict privacy standards.

The Timeline
The rollout will be staged. An upgraded, more personalized version of the current Siri will arrive with iOS 26.4, finally delivering on the “Apple Intelligence” features initially promised years ago in iOS 18. However, the full “Campos” chatbot overhaul will be the centerpiece of iOS 27. Apple plans to unveil the technology at the Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) in June, positioning it as the defining feature of the next generation of operating systems while the rest of the update focuses on stability and performance.
