The U.S. State Department has approved a $510 million foreign military sale to Israel, focused on advanced precision-guided munitions. The package includes 3,845 Joint Direct Attack Munition (JDAM) kits for BLU-109 bunker-busting bombs, as well as 3,280 JDAM kits for MK-82 500-pound general-purpose bombs. These JDAM kits convert traditional bombs into GPS-guided smart munitions, enhancing strike precision in complex battle environments.
The sale, now notified to Congress, underscores ongoing U.S. support for Israel’s defense capabilities amid heightened tensions in the region. The BLU-109 bombs are specifically designed to penetrate fortified underground targets, making them particularly valuable in operations targeting tunnels, bunkers, or command infrastructure. MK-82 bombs, on the other hand, serve as versatile, lower-yield munitions for general combat scenarios.
This approval comes as Israel continues its multi-front military posture, particularly in Gaza and along the northern borders. The sale is expected to boost the operational flexibility of the Israeli Air Force and reinforce U.S.–Israel strategic cooperation.
