Hezbollah Official Potentially Targeted in Beirut Airstrike
Preliminary information suggests that the Israeli airstrike in Beirut’s Basta Al-Fawqa neighborhood may have targeted Talal Hamiyah, a senior Hezbollah figure. Hamiyah heads Hezbollah’s External Security Office and is believed to be the last remaining operative in the group’s leadership with the capacity to coordinate attacks outside Lebanon.
The U.S. State Department has previously announced a $7 million reward for information leading to Hamiyah, highlighting his key role in global Hezbollah operations.
The strike involved bunker-busting missiles that completely destroyed an 8-story building, with significant casualties reported and bodies still being recovered. Hezbollah has cordoned off the site, heightening speculation about the target.
This development could mark a significant escalation, but confirmation of the target is pending further information.
