German Chancellor Olaf Scholz has reaffirmed his decision not to supply Ukraine with Taurus cruise missiles, stating, “For many reasons, I consider it a mistake to provide such weapons. It would mean deeper involvement in the war, which I do not deem appropriate.” His stance has drawn praise from Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov but criticism at home, where Scholz remains unpopular.
Defense Minister Boris Pistorius, a potential candidate to replace Scholz, is seen as a hawk in favor of robust military support for Ukraine, including supplying Taurus missiles.
