Israeli officials say efforts are underway to arrange a meeting between senior U.S. and Iranian officials in Islamabad, Pakistan, later this week.
According to the officials, discussions include the possibility of U.S. Vice President J.D. Vance representing Washington, alongside figures such as Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner. Iran may be represented by Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf and other senior officials.
Israel reportedly knew that mediation efforts were ongoing by several countries to initiate talks but was surprised by statements suggesting that contacts had progressed significantly and included potential agreements.
The reports also indicate that indirect communication channels between the U.S. administration and a senior Iranian decision-maker are active, though details remain limited.
