U.S. President Donald Trump said multiple countries may deploy warships alongside the United States to keep the Strait of Hormuz open and secure amid escalating tensions with Iran.
In a statement, Trump said nations affected by disruptions to shipping in the strategic waterway—including China, France, Japan, South Korea, and the United Kingdom—could send naval forces to the region to help ensure safe passage for international vessels.
The Strait of Hormuz is one of the world’s most critical maritime chokepoints, carrying a large share of global oil shipments between the Persian Gulf and international markets. Recent threats to the route, including mines, drones, and missile attacks, have raised concerns about global energy security and shipping safety.
Trump said U.S. forces will continue operations in the region to secure the waterway and counter threats to maritime traffic.
The call for a broader naval presence comes as tensions in the region remain high and international leaders monitor the potential economic impact of disruptions to global oil supply routes.
