Russia has launched a series of missile strikes on Ukraine’s capital, Kyiv, with multiple ballistic missile impacts reported within the city. The attacks, which began in the early morning hours, were met with air defense systems, but explosions were heard across the city.
According to preliminary reports, the missiles targeted key infrastructure and residential areas. Mayor Vitalii Klitschko and Kyiv City Military Administration head Tymur Tkachenko have confirmed the strikes and stated that air defense units were activated. The attacks also included a large-scale drone assault, with dozens of drones flying over central and southern regions of the country.
While a full assessment of the damage and casualties is still underway, initial reports indicate a chaotic situation. Ukraine’s Air Force has reported that Russia launched a ballistic missile at Ukraine’s central region, and the full extent of the attack’s damage is still being determined.
This latest strike is part of Russia’s continued campaign of aerial attacks on Ukrainian cities, which has increased in frequency and intensity since the start of 2025. The strikes come even as U.S.-brokered peace talks continue, demonstrating Russia’s intent to exert pressure on Kyiv through constant attacks on cities and military probes into various regions.
