U.S. President Donald J. Trump and Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau have reached a critical agreement to address fentanyl trafficking and reinforce the northern border. As part of the $1.3 billion Canadian border plan, nearly 10,000 Canadian National Guard troops will be deployed immediately along the border, supported by new helicopters, advanced technology, and enhanced personnel coordination.
Additionally, Canada will appoint a “Fentanyl Czar,” list drug cartels as terrorist organizations, and launch a Canada-U.S. Joint Strike Force to combat organized crime and money laundering. A newly signed intelligence directive on organized crime and fentanyl will receive $200 million in funding.
As a result of this cooperation, President Trump announced a one-month pause on the 25% tariffs scheduled to go into effect tomorrow, providing time for the agreements to be implemented. “This initial outcome is very positive for both nations,” said Trump, emphasizing fairness and national security.
