In his first official visit abroad since the ousting of former Syrian President Bashar al-Assad in December, Syrian interim President Ahmad al-Sharaa met with Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman in Riyadh today. The meeting focused on plans for future cooperation in sectors such as energy, technology, education, and healthcare, signaling a new phase in Saudi-Syrian relations.

During the meeting, al-Sharaa acknowledged Saudi Arabia’s commitment to supporting Syria’s unity, stability, and recovery. “We have seen a genuine Saudi desire to help Syria rebuild and secure lasting peace in the region,” he said, adding that the discussions laid the foundation for a strong partnership.
Saudi state media confirmed that Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman congratulated al-Sharaa on his leadership and emphasized the kingdom’s readiness to support Syria’s transition and reconstruction.
Key attendees included Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan and senior intelligence officials, along with Syrian Foreign Minister Asaad al-Shaibani. The talks highlighted mutual efforts to address regional security concerns and bolster economic ties.
This visit comes as Saudi Arabia and Syria work on repairing bilateral relations following years of estrangement during the Syrian civil war.
