The U.S. Navy destroyer USS Oscar Austin (DDG-79) intercepted and destroyed an Iranian ballistic missile heading toward Incirlik Air Base in Turkey during the latest escalation in the region.

According to reports, the destroyer used an SM-3 interceptor missile, part of the Aegis Ballistic Missile Defense system, to neutralize the incoming threat before it could reach the NATO installation.
Incirlik Air Base, located in southern Turkey, is a key NATO and U.S. strategic facility used for regional operations and hosting allied forces.
Following the interception, NATO issued a statement saying the alliance “remains vigilant and stands firm in its defence of all Allies.”
The incident highlights the growing expansion of missile defense operations across the region, as Iranian missile launches increasingly target military installations connected to U.S. and allied forces.
