U.S. Ambassador Presents Draft Truce Proposal to Lebanese Parliament Speaker
The U.S. ambassador to Lebanon submitted a draft truce proposal to Lebanon’s Speaker of Parliament, Nabih Berri, today in an effort to halt the fighting between Hezbollah and Israel, according to two political sources who spoke with Reuters. Details of the proposal have not been disclosed. The U.S. has been attempting to mediate a ceasefire to end hostilities between its ally Israel and the Iran-backed Hezbollah, but so far, these efforts have not produced a result.
Earlier today, Israeli Energy Minister Eli Cohen stated in an interview that Israel is now closer than it has been in the past year to reaching an agreement to end hostilities in Lebanon.
