Trump Appoints Lebanese American Businessman Massad Boulos as Senior Adviser on Middle East Affairs
U.S. President-elect Donald Trump announced that Lebanese American businessman Massad Boulos will serve as his senior adviser on Arab and Middle Eastern affairs. Trump praised Boulos on Truth Social as a “highly respected leader” with extensive international experience, a proponent of Republican values, and a key figure in building coalitions with Arab American communities during the campaign.
Boulos is expected to focus on Arab countries, complementing Trump’s special envoy for the Middle East, Steve Witkoff, whose portfolio will prioritize Israel. Boulos’s deep ties across Lebanon’s political spectrum, including relationships with both pro- and anti-Hezbollah factions, are seen as unique assets in navigating the region’s complexities.
Boulos also campaigned for Trump among Lebanese and Arab American voters, even as the U.S. supported Israel’s military campaign against Hezbollah. His connections include influential Lebanese political figures and factions, such as Suleiman Frangieh, a Hezbollah ally, and the anti-Hezbollah Lebanese Forces Party.
Boulos’s appointment reflects Trump’s reliance on close family ties, with recent selections of his son-in-law Jared Kushner’s father as U.S. ambassador to France and Boulos as an adviser. Boulos, whose son Michael married Trump’s daughter Tiffany, brings a mix of business acumen and political ties that analysts believe could influence Trump’s Middle East policies.
