The White House Calls for Temporary Extension of Lebanon Ceasefire
The White House has urged for a short, temporary extension of the ceasefire in Lebanon, according to National Security Council spokesman Brian Hughes.
President Donald Trump is committed to ensuring that Israeli citizens can safely return to their homes in northern Israel, while also supporting Lebanese President Joseph Aoun and the Lebanese government in stabilizing the country.
“All parties share the goal of ensuring that Hezbollah will not be able to threaten the Lebanese people and Lebanon’s neighbors,” Hughes stated.
The White House emphasized the urgent need for an extension to the ceasefire to achieve these security goals and prevent further escalation.
Additionally, Hughes noted that the U.S. is pleased with the ongoing IDF withdrawal from the central sector of southern Lebanon, and the administration will collaborate with Israel, Lebanon, and international partners to facilitate the ceasefire extension.
