🇨🇳 Shanghai has constructed a city-sized hub dedicated entirely to artificial intelligence — and more than 400 startups have already set up shop inside it. Designed to mirror the spirit of Silicon Valley, the district hosts everything from robotics and autonomous driving labs to what officials call an “AI computing power supermarket,” where developers can purchase the digital horsepower they need.

The project is heavily supported by the government, which is offering cash incentives and tech challenges — essentially “solve this problem, win funding.” The approach has transformed the zone into a proving ground for China’s boldest AI ambitions.
Over 90% of the workforce stems from top universities and major technology firms, ensuring the hub is filled with high-level talent. While no one lives there yet, the city’s primary mission isn’t lifestyle — it’s innovation, with China aiming to cement global dominance in AI through concentrated development, collaboration, and competition.
