Nawaf Salam to Be Named Lebanon’s New Prime Minister Tomorrow
In an exclusive development, sources have confirmed that Nawaf Salam is set to be officially named as Lebanon’s new Prime Minister tomorrow. The announcement is expected to follow consultations between President Joseph Aoun and key parliamentary blocs.
Nawaf Salam, a renowned diplomat, jurist, and academic, is set to be named Lebanon’s new Prime Minister on Monday. The decision comes as Lebanon continues to navigate a challenging political and economic crisis, with hopes that Salam’s distinguished career in international law and diplomacy will bring much-needed stability and reform.
Salam, 70, currently serves as the President of the International Court of Justice (ICJ), a position he has held since February 2024. Before this, he represented Lebanon as its Permanent Representative to the United Nations from 2007 to 2017. In 2018, Salam was elected as a judge at the ICJ, becoming a key figure in international jurisprudence.
A graduate of Harvard University and Sorbonne University, Salam has also contributed extensively to academia. He taught at the American University of Beirut (AUB) and chaired its Department of Political Studies and Public Administration. Additionally, he co-founded the Lebanese Association for Democratic Elections (LADE) and served on the board of trustees of the Lebanese Center for Policy Studies (LCPS).
The anticipated appointment underscores Lebanon’s recognition of Salam’s vast expertise and leadership at a time when the country faces mounting challenges. His experience in global governance and legal reform is expected to help steer Lebanon toward recovery and institutional reform.
