A Weibo post from China’s CCTV Military account confirms that a freelance tourist named Wei was investigated and punished under national security law for unknowingly capturing and sharing images of sensitive military sites.

While touring a scenic area, Wei used a long-focus camera lens and inadvertently photographed parts of a restricted military facility. The photos were later uploaded to his personal social media account. Authorities said Wei did not realize the military significance of the structures visible in the background.

However, the National Security Agency stressed that sharing such images—intentionally or not—can severely compromise classified military information. The release of these images could potentially lead to leaks of national defense secrets, prompting the decision to handle Wei according to the law.
The post concludes with a reminder:
Citizens should report suspicious findings through the 12339 hotline or official state security platforms.
