Here’s your June 30, 2025 global briefing across diplomacy, conflict, and geopolitics:

📍 Iran bans Starlink — Iran criminalized the use of Elon Musk’s Starlink satellite internet, enforcing penalties including fines, flogging, and up to 2 years imprisonment. Despite this, 20,000–40,000 terminals remain active via black markets, fueling digital dissent.

📍 Russia advances on Sumy — 50,000 Russian troops are now just 20 km from Sumy, outnumbering Ukraine’s defenders 3-to-1. Despite daily losses of 300–400 troops, Moscow continues reinforcing. Ukraine is deploying elite units to hold the line.

📍 Trump executive orders on Syria — President Trump will sign an executive order easing sanctions on Syria but maintaining them on Assad and Iran’s proxies. A separate White House statement clarified that regime figures remain sanctioned.

📍 Iran vs. IAEA — Iranian President Pezeshkian and Parliament slammed the IAEA for “non-neutral” behavior. Tehran is suspending cooperation with the agency following its criticism of Iran’s nuclear activities.

📍 Tensions with Israel — An Iranian MP warned of potential retaliation over the killing of IRGC commanders, even suggesting Netanyahu’s life could be targeted. FM Araghchi labeled Israel’s assassination of an Iranian scientist a “heinous crime.” Khamenei asserted Iran would never bow to foreign pressure.

📍 Netanyahu–Trump Meeting Expected — Reports suggest Israeli PM Netanyahu will meet Trump next Monday, following heightened coordination between the two leaders.

📍 Greek warships deployed — Greece positioned three warships between Libya and Türkiye to intercept smuggling boats. The move coincides with Libya’s near-ratification of a maritime deal with Ankara, raising regional tensions.

📍 Israel acknowledges civilian harm in Gaza — The Israeli military admitted Palestinian civilians were harmed at aid centers and stated new directives are being implemented to prevent further casualties.

📍 Trump on Iran — Trump reiterated he’s “not offering Iran anything” and emphasized that the U.S. “obliterated” their nuclear facilities. He added that he isn’t communicating with Iranian leaders at all.

📍 U.S.–Canada talks resume — White House economic director Kevin Hassett announced negotiations with Canada will resume immediately, indicating warming trade relations.

📍 Trump criticizes Japan — Trump pointed out Japan’s refusal to import U.S. rice despite a domestic shortage, calling it an example of how nations take advantage of U.S. trade tolerance.
