🇮🇱🇷🇴 Israeli defense giant Rafael Advanced Defense Systems is nearing completion of a massive $2.2 billion deal with Romania for the supply of air defense systems, marking one of the largest defense contracts in Israel’s history.
While the final contract is still pending signature, the deal is part of Romania’s strategic initiative to modernize its national defense infrastructure, signaling closer military ties between Bucharest and Tel Aviv.
This would become the second-largest Israeli defense export ever, trailing only behind the $3.5 billion Arrow-3 missile defense system agreement with Germany. The air defense systems Rafael is expected to provide include cutting-edge intercept technologies known for their combat-proven effectiveness, including elements from the Iron Dome and David’s Sling systems.
The agreement comes amid rising geopolitical instability in Eastern Europe, with NATO states such as Romania seeking to enhance airspace security against regional threats. Romania’s selection of Rafael over European alternatives underscores growing trust in Israeli defense technology on the global stage.
