Israeli Airstrike Destroys 8-Story Building in Beirut: Target Identified as Senior Hezbollah Official
In the early hours of Saturday, an Israeli airstrike leveled an eight-story building in central Beirut, killing at least 11 people and injuring 23 others, according to Lebanese reports. The Arabic-language Sky News reported that the target of the strike was Mohammad Haidar, Hezbollah’s head of operations. Haidar, described as a close advisor to Hassan Nasrallah and the “strategic and security mastermind” of the organization, had become Hezbollah’s most senior military figure following a series of recent assassinations.
Lebanese state media confirmed that the building was struck with multiple missiles, with Israeli fighter jets reportedly firing at least four. The destruction was extensive, with neighboring structures also sustaining damage. Initial reports by Hezbollah-affiliated Al-Mayadeen spoke of five casualties, but the death toll quickly rose to 11 as rescue operations continued.
Haidar, nicknamed “The Ghost” by Israeli security forces, is known for his strategic influence and for avoiding public appearances. He has played a central role in Hezbollah’s global activities, including recruiting operatives and coordinating attacks across South America, Europe, and Africa. He succeeded key figures like Mustafa Badreddine and Imad Mughniyeh, both of whom were previously assassinated.
The airstrike occurred amid ongoing ceasefire negotiations mediated by the U.S. Sources indicated that the American envoy Amos Hochstein had returned to Washington with progress in talks, though remaining disagreements—such as France’s role in enforcement mechanisms—could still delay an agreement.

ويُعرف حيدر بلقب “الشبح” بين القوات الإسرائيلية، حيث يشتهر بتجنب الظهور العلني. لعب دورًا محوريًا في عمليات حزب الله الدولية، بما في ذلك تجنيد العناصر وتنفيذ هجمات في أمريكا الجنوبية وأوروبا وأفريقيا. وكان خلفاً لشخصيات بارزة مثل مصطفى بدر الدين وعماد مغنية، اللذين اغتيلا في وقت سابق.
