Israeli Security Cabinet Approves Maps for Continued Military Presence on Philadelphi Route Near Gaza-Egypt Border

The Israeli Security Cabinet has approved maps outlining the continued presence of the Israeli military on the Philadelphi Route, along the Gaza-Egypt border, as part of a potential ceasefire deal, according to Israeli media.

Details of the Decision:

• The decision was supported by a majority of eight ministers, with Defense Minister Yoav Gallant voting against it, while National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir abstained from voting.

• The Philadelphi Route, a 14-kilometer stretch along the Gaza-Egypt border, remains a contentious point in the stalled ceasefire negotiations. Israel has deployed its forces there for months and refuses to withdraw from this position.

Israeli Stance:

• On Monday evening, Prime Minister Netanyahu’s office reiterated that Israel is committed to maintaining a presence along the Philadelphi Route, from the Kerem Shalom crossing to the Mediterranean Sea.

Egypt’s Position:

• Recently, “Cairo News” channel quoted a senior source stating that Egypt has “reaffirmed to all concerned parties its rejection of any Israeli presence at the Rafah crossing or on the Philadelphi Route.”

These developments highlight the ongoing complexities in the ceasefire negotiations and the regional dynamics surrounding Gaza.
