Lebanon 🇱🇧 | Israel 🇮🇱
On Wednesday night, Israel conducted a targeted airstrike in Beirut against Hashim Safi al-Din, the head of Hezbollah’s executive committee and a prominent figure in the group’s leadership. Israeli officials confirmed the strike but stated it is unclear whether al-Din was killed, as he was reportedly located in a bunker deep underground at the time. Safi al-Din is considered a potential successor to Hassan Nasrallah, Hezbollah’s current leader, and has been designated a global terrorist by the U.S. State Department since 2017.
The strike took place in southern Beirut, an area known for housing many Hezbollah compounds. Reports from Lebanese media indicate that the operation was significantly larger than the Israeli strike that killed Nasrallah last week. Casualty figures remain uncertain as the situation continues to develop.
