According to a Financial Times report, U.S. President Donald J. Trump privately pressed Ukraine to escalate strikes deep inside Russia during a July 4th phone call with President Volodymyr Zelensky. Trump reportedly asked, “Volodymyr, can you hit Moscow? Can you hit St. Petersburg too?”
Zelensky replied, “Absolutely. We can if you give us the weapons.”
The conversation came hours after Trump’s separate call with Russian President Vladimir Putin, which Trump later described as “bad.” The exchange underscores Trump’s growing frustration with Moscow and his willingness to supply Ukraine with advanced long-range weaponry if it helps pressure Putin into negotiations.
