President Donald Trump has made a historic and sweeping declaration regarding the status of the Middle East, asserting that the region has achieved peace “for the first time” in three millennia. Speaking to reporters, the President linked this apparent breakthrough to active diplomatic engagements with Lebanon aimed at neutralizing the long-standing threat of Hezbollah.
“Hezbollah has been a problem in Lebanon, a big problem,” Trump stated. “We’re working with Lebanon. We’re working with everybody in the Middle East.”
The President’s comments come just 24 hours after Lebanese President Joseph Aoun signaled Beirut’s readiness to negotiate a final end to hostilities and deploy the Lebanese Army to the southern border. Trump appeared to seize on these developments as the final puzzle piece in his broader regional strategy. “We actually have now for the first time peace in the Middle East after 3,000 years,” he proclaimed.
While details of the specific arrangement remain fluid, Trump indicated that the current status is a foundation that will be strengthened in the coming days. “Now we’re going to refine it. And I think you’re going to see some very positive things happen.”
The announcement suggests a major diplomatic convergence between Washington, Beirut, and Jerusalem. For months, the U.S. administration has exerted immense pressure on the Lebanese government to disarm Hezbollah—or at least remove its heavy weaponry from the Litani River area—threatening to label the nation a “failed state” if it did not act. The President’s optimistic tone implies that a significant concession or agreement has been reached behind closed doors, likely involving the dismantlement of Hezbollah’s military infrastructure in exchange for economic revitalization and a halt to Israeli airstrikes.
Critics remain skeptical of the “3,000 years” claim, pointing to the fragile nature of the current ceasefire, which has been marred by near-daily violations and Israeli strikes on rearming efforts. However, Trump’s assertion of “peace” frames the administration’s view that the strategic threat of Iranian proxies has been effectively broken, transforming the region’s security architecture.
