The federal response emphasized the need to protect Department of Homeland Security personnel and maintain operational readiness. Newsom, however, argues that President Trump overstepped constitutional limits by bypassing gubernatorial consent, noting that no “invasion” or “rebellion” currently justifies such action under federal law.
As the legal battle intensifies, approximately 4,000 National Guard troops and 700 Marines remain active in LA. Newsom claims the deployed units are underfed, undersupplied, and operating without clear directives, while the Trump administration insists they are essential for maintaining order and federal security operations.
