Israel has announced its withdrawal from ceasefire negotiations in Doha after Hamas issued what officials called “unreasonable” demands, including the release of thousands of prisoners—some tied to the **October 7th Nukhba Force attacks—in exchange for a limited number of hostages.
Following the Israeli decision, U.S. Special Envoy to the Middle East Steve Witkoff confirmed that Washington is recalling its team for consultations. Witkoff stated: “Hamas’ latest response clearly shows a lack of desire to reach a ceasefire in Gaza. While mediators have made a great effort, Hamas does not appear to be acting in good faith. We will now consider alternative options to bring the hostages home and create a more stable environment for Gaza.”
The Israeli Prime Minister’s Office echoed these sentiments, expressing appreciation for Qatari, Egyptian, and U.S. mediation but stressing that Hamas’ demands leave no room for progress. The collapse of talks raises uncertainty about future diplomatic efforts and the fate of remaining hostages.
