EU VOTES ON NEW TARIFFS AS TRUMP TIGHTENS TRADE WAR
The European Union is voting today on a 25% tariff package targeting $21 billion in U.S. goods, escalating a tit-for-tat trade battle with Washington.
This move follows Trump’s rejection of the EU’s “zero-for-zero” offer and his demand that Europe buy $350 billion in U.S. energy to avoid tariffs. In response, Brussels is pushing back.
Already hit by 20% tariffs on steel, aluminum, and cars, the EU is now drawing up its own hit list—targeting U.S. meat, clothing, wood, and toiletries. Alcohol imports were spared after France and Italy intervened.
The first wave of EU tariffs could take effect as early as April 15, with a second round planned for May 16, unless negotiations make a breakthrough.
