Billionaire Elon Musk has announced the launch of “Grok 3,” the latest iteration of his AI chatbot developed by xAI, positioning it as a direct competitor to OpenAI’s ChatGPT.
In a post on X, Musk revealed that Grok 3 will be officially unveiled on Monday during a live demonstration, calling it “the smartest AI model on Earth.”

Grok 3 in Final Stages
Musk stated that Grok 3 is in the final phase of development and will be temporarily offline over the weekend for updates. At the World Government Summit in Dubai, he showcased the AI’s capabilities, describing them as “terrifying at times” and claiming it surpasses all previous AI models.
Criticism of OpenAI
During the event, Musk took aim at OpenAI, the company he co-founded in 2015, accusing it of shifting from a nonprofit, open-source model to a profit-driven entity. He also confirmed that xAI had made an unsolicited $97.4 billion offer to acquire OpenAI, stating, “Their goals have completely changed. They are now purely focused on profit.”
Musk vs. Altman: A Growing Feud
Musk’s conflict with OpenAI CEO Sam Altman dates back to 2015, when they co-founded the company as a nonprofit organization. As OpenAI transitioned to a for-profit model, tensions escalated. Musk argues that his acquisition offer was intended to curb OpenAI’s commercial ambitions, while Altman reportedly saw it as a hostile takeover attempt.
The unveiling of Grok 3 is expected to intensify competition in the AI sector, as Musk aims to redefine the future of artificial intelligence.
