A SkyWest-operated Delta Connection flight, a CRJ-900 regional jet, flipped upside down while landing at Toronto Pearson International Airport on Monday. The incident, involving Delta Flight 4819 from Minneapolis-Saint Paul International Airport (MSP) to Toronto (YYZ), left multiple passengers injured, though no fatalities have been reported.

Emergency responders confirmed that at least 18 people sustained injuries, with three in critical condition, including a child. A man in his 60s and a woman in her 40s were among those critically injured and were transported to separate hospitals for urgent medical care. The child was taken to Toronto’s SickKids hospital.

The cause of the accident remains unclear, though initial reports suggest strong winds may have played a role. Wind speeds at the time of landing were reported to be around 40 mph at ground level, with stronger gusts higher up.
Emergency crews were quickly dispatched to the scene, with paramedics and fire personnel working to assess and assist the passengers. Flightradar24 data indicated that an Orange Air ambulance helicopter landed at the airport to aid in medical evacuations.
CTV News reported that operations at Toronto Pearson were temporarily halted following the crash, with no arrivals or departures permitted while emergency teams worked on-site.
Authorities have yet to provide an official explanation for how the aircraft overturned. Investigators from Canada’s Transportation Safety Board (TSB) are expected to examine flight data, weather conditions, and pilot communications to determine the cause of the incident.
SkyWest Airlines, which operates the flight on behalf of Delta, issued a brief statement acknowledging the incident but has not provided further details. Delta Air Lines also confirmed the situation and stated that they are working closely with authorities to support affected passengers.
The CRJ-900 is a widely used regional jet designed for short- to medium-haul flights, typically carrying around 76 to 90 passengers. The aircraft’s design and landing gear system will likely be key aspects of the investigation.
Passengers aboard the flight described a chaotic scene as the plane lost control and overturned upon landing. One survivor told CP24 that the experience was “terrifying” and that they were “just grateful to be alive.”
More updates are expected as investigators analyze the crash and assess the condition of the injured passengers.
