🇪🇺 The European defense giant MBDA has officially introduced its latest innovation in man-portable air defense systems (MANPADS) — the FULGUR. This cutting-edge system is poised to replace aging platforms like the FIM-92 Stinger with advanced capabilities tailored for modern battlefields.

The FULGUR is equipped with a supersonic missile boasting an effective range of 5 km, significantly outperforming the U.S.-made Stinger’s maximum reach of 3.8 km. The missile weighs 10 kg, measures 1.5 meters in length, and has a diameter of 70 mm.

One of the standout features of FULGUR is its electro-optical seeker head, which utilizes infrared imaging technology. This marks a technological leap over traditional IR guidance used in legacy systems like the Stinger, offering improved target recognition and enhanced resistance to countermeasures.

The fire-and-forget guidance is paired with an advanced data processing suite and an integrated Identification Friend or Foe (IFF) module, dramatically reducing the risk of friendly fire incidents in complex combat environments.

Mass production is expected to begin soon, with initial deliveries scheduled for 2028, aiming to strengthen Europe’s short-range air defense capabilities amid growing global threats.
