The U.S. Navy confirmed that a fire aboard the USS New Orleans (LPD-18) was extinguished after more than 12 hours of firefighting efforts near Okinawa. The blaze began around 16:00 on August 20 while the vessel was anchored at White Beach Naval Facility and was declared fully out by 04:00 on August 21.

Two sailors sustained minor injuries during the incident, while the remainder of the crew stayed aboard as firefighting support arrived from both U.S. and Japanese forces. The exact cause of the fire remains under investigation.
