CHINA TO TRUMP: “THREATS WON’T WORK”
After U.S. President Donald Trump warned of an additional 50% in tariffs if China doesn’t reverse its recent 34% increase, Beijing has responded defiantly.
Liu Pengyu, spokesman for China’s U.S. Embassy, issued the following statement:
“We have stressed more than once that pressuring or threatening China is not a right way to engage with us. China will firmly safeguard its legitimate rights and interests.”
Tensions continue to escalate as Trump’s April 9th tariff deadline approaches. China’s response signals a readiness to push back hard against U.S. trade pressure, even as global markets reel from economic uncertainty.
