A new diplomatic proposal to end hostilities between the United States and Iran has been delivered to both sides, outlining a potential immediate ceasefire followed by a broader agreement, according to sources familiar with the negotiations.
The plan, reportedly coordinated by Pakistan, introduces a two-phase framework:
• Phase 1: Immediate ceasefire and reopening of the Strait of Hormuz
• Phase 2: A comprehensive agreement to be finalized within 15–20 days
The proposed deal—informally referred to as the “Islamabad Accord”—would include commitments from Iran related to its nuclear program in exchange for sanctions relief and the release of frozen assets.
Sources indicate that Pakistan’s military leadership has been actively mediating, with high-level communications involving U.S. Vice President JD Vance, envoy Steve Witkoff, and Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi. Pakistan has reportedly served as the primary communication channel between Washington and Tehran.
The ceasefire component could take effect as early as Monday if all parties agree, potentially restoring maritime traffic through the Strait of Hormuz, a critical global oil transit route.
Despite the progress, uncertainty remains. Iranian officials have not yet formally committed to the proposal, and mediators continue efforts to secure agreement from all sides.
Previous discussions have included similar frameworks, such as a temporary ceasefire lasting up to 45 days, aimed at creating space for a permanent resolution.
The initiative comes amid escalating military activity and growing global concerns over energy security, as disruptions in the Strait of Hormuz continue to impact international markets.
