Germany’s contribution includes three Bundeswehr officers—a brigadier general and two staff officers from Operational Command—serving unarmed at the CMCC to support ceasefire monitoring and aid facilitation. The deployment does not require German parliamentary approval as it involves no armed operations.
Col. Marante’s meeting focused on coordinating international aid flow, which has increased to nearly 800 trucks daily through CMCC partnerships. The center determines what aid enters Gaza and manages distribution channels, working with NGOs and international organizations to overcome access challenges.
The operation supports President Trump’s 20-point Gaza ceasefire plan, endorsed by world powers at the Sharm el-Sheikh summit. The plan’s first phase saw Hamas release 20 Israeli captives while Israel freed nearly 2,000 Palestinian prisoners. Israeli troop withdrawals from densely populated areas continue as humanitarian aid flows increase.
However, the arrangement has drawn criticism. Agencies report insufficient aid reaching Gaza despite Israel’s claim of sending 600 trucks daily. Restrictions remain on dual-use items, and the UN has documented Israeli violations including attacks on humanitarian convoys.
The US-led coordination effort follows months of warfare that killed nearly 68,000 Palestinians, according to local health authorities. A UN commission concluded Israel committed genocide in Gaza, while US officials maintain the CMCC is crucial for stabilization.
