The 70-year-old Lebanese-American renounced his Lebanese citizenship to avoid conflicts of interest and shares a personal friendship with President Trump, bonded by their mutual passion for golf. Trump nominated Issa in March, calling him “a warrior and a friend”—words he reserves for trusted allies he expects to deliver results.
