The first phase of President Donald Trump’s Gaza peace initiative has drawn widespread international praise, with key world leaders—including Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney, and the Israel Defense Forces—welcoming the agreement as a breakthrough toward stability and humanitarian relief in the region.

In a public statement on X, Prime Minister Narendra Modi described the accord as “a reflection of the strong leadership of PM Netanyahu” and commended President Trump for his diplomatic efforts. Modi emphasized that India “welcomes the agreement on the first phase of President Trump’s peace plan” and expressed hope that “the release of hostages and enhanced humanitarian assistance to the people of Gaza will bring respite to them and pave the way for lasting peace.”

Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney echoed similar sentiments, congratulating President Trump for his “essential leadership” and thanking Qatar, Egypt, and Türkiye for their mediation efforts. “After years of intense suffering, peace finally feels attainable,” Carney said. “Canada calls on all parties to swiftly implement all agreed terms and to work towards a just and lasting peace.”

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) officially confirmed its support for the deal, issuing two statements overnight in Hebrew and English. The IDF announced that the agreement marks the beginning of the first phase of Trump’s peace plan, focused on the return of hostages and a ceasefire framework. The IDF Chief of Staff directed all units to remain on alert, strengthen defensive positions, and prepare for the safe execution of hostage recovery operations. “Preparations will be carried out with sensitivity and professionalism,” the statement said, while affirming the IDF’s commitment to defending Israel’s citizens across all fronts.

According to Israeli Army Radio, combat units stationed in Gaza have begun preparations for a partial withdrawal or redeployment to defensive lines, signaling the early implementation of the ceasefire terms. The move follows directives from the political echelon and reflects a coordinated plan for repositioning troops as part of the phased peace process.

The agreement—brokered by the United States, Qatar, Egypt, and Türkiye—includes provisions for the release of hostages held in Gaza, a suspension of hostilities, and expanded humanitarian aid delivery into the enclave. The deal’s guarantors have pledged to monitor compliance and ensure that all sides uphold their commitments under the plan.

Analysts say the success of this first phase will be critical to determining whether the ceasefire can evolve into a durable peace framework. Trump’s peace initiative aims to restore stability to Gaza while setting the groundwork for broader regional normalization efforts involving Israel and several Arab states.

As international leaders express optimism, the atmosphere remains cautious. Israel’s military leadership continues to prepare for “any operational developments,” and officials stress that the peace process will require close coordination, verification, and sustained engagement from all parties involved.

Nevertheless, the coordinated responses from Washington, Jerusalem, New Delhi, Ottawa, Doha, Cairo, and Ankara mark a rare moment of global alignment. The first tangible step toward easing the Gaza crisis now appears to be underway—with world leaders crediting President Trump’s mediation for breaking one of the most complex deadlocks in modern diplomacy.
