A tragic shooting at Annunciation Catholic School in Minneapolis has resulted in the deaths of at least two people, with more than a dozen others injured, according to officials. The incident occurred during a morning Mass, prompting a large-scale police and emergency response.
The Minneapolis Police Department confirmed that the shooter has been “contained” and there is no longer an active threat to the community. Local media reports, citing law enforcement sources, state that the suspect died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
While initial casualty counts vary, sources speaking with local media have reported up to 20 victims in total. The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms (ATF) and the FBI were on the scene assisting local police.
The shooting took place on the first week of classes for the school, a K-8 institution. Minnesota Governor Tim Walz has been briefed on the situation and released a statement expressing his prayers for those affected by the “horrific act of violence.”
Authorities are still investigating the motive behind the shooting.
