🇹🇼 In an alarming interview with Sky News, Taiwan’s Deputy Foreign Minister Francois Wu stated that China is actively preparing for a military invasion of Taiwan. The remarks were featured in a special 25-minute documentary titled “Is Taiwan Ready for a Chinese Invasion?”, which aired as Sky News teams visited Penghu, Taoyuan, and Taipei.
Wu warned, “Taiwan alone, facing China — we will never be ready… China is so big, so huge.” He stressed that a successful invasion would not only devastate Taiwan, but “the modern world we are living in now… will also disappear” due to the global dependence on Taiwanese semiconductors.
Key concerns raised in the documentary:
• Taiwan’s drone output stands at 8,000–10,000 units/year, far below its target of 180,000 by 2028.
• PLA aircraft violations of Taiwan’s ADIZ have significantly increased since President William Lai took office.
• For the first time, both of China’s active aircraft carriers have been deployed simultaneously in the Western Pacific.
• Taiwan continues to conduct emergency drills and build civil resilience in the face of rising threat levels.
Wu also emphasized the strategic importance of U.S. support:
“Donald Trump certainly knows that without Taiwanese chips, he cannot make America great again.”
The interview draws global attention back to Taiwan’s frontline role in the U.S.–China power struggle, with escalating tensions now clearly being acknowledged by top Taipei officials as a precursor to possible military conflict.
