A U.S. A-10 Thunderbolt II attack aircraft crashed in the Persian Gulf region on Friday, with the pilot safely rescued, according to two U.S. officials cited by The New York Times.

The incident reportedly occurred near the Strait of Hormuz, a key global energy corridor currently at the center of escalating tensions.
Officials indicated that the crash took place around the same time a U.S. F-15E Strike Eagle was shot down over central Iran. In that separate incident, one crew member has been rescued, while search operations continue for the second.
Authorities have not yet disclosed the cause of the A-10 crash, and it remains unclear whether it was due to mechanical failure, operational conditions, or hostile fire.
The near-simultaneous incidents highlight the increasing risks facing U.S. air operations across the region as the conflict continues to intensify.
