Iran Claims Downed U.S. F-15E, Debris Emerges

Iranian media released images of alleged F-15E debris, suggesting a possible U.S. aircraft loss, though no official confirmation has been issued.

Iranian state-affiliated Mehr News Agency has released images purportedly showing debris from a U.S. Air Force F-15E Strike Eagle, reportedly damaged or downed during recent operations.

According to the report, the wreckage includes fragments consistent with a vertical stabilizer and additional structural components. Markings visible on the debris appear to align with aircraft operated by the 494th Fighter Squadron, which is part of the 48th Fighter Wing based at RAF Lakenheath.

Initial reporting by Mehr reportedly misidentified the aircraft as a stealth F-35 Lightning II, before later assessments pointed instead to the F-15E platform.

If confirmed, the incident would mark a significant development, as the F-15E is a key multirole strike aircraft used extensively in deep strike, interdiction, and close air support missions. The aircraft is known for its heavy payload capacity and long-range operational capability.

At this stage, there has been no official confirmation from U.S. authorities regarding the loss or damage of an F-15E in the reported incident.

The release of the images comes amid heightened tensions and ongoing military operations, where both sides continue to exchange claims regarding battlefield developments.
