U.S. President Donald J. Trump is pushing to halt further strikes on Iranian energy infrastructure following Wednesday’s Israeli attack on a natural gas processing facility linked to Iran’s South Pars Offshore Gas Field, according to U.S. officials cited by The Wall Street Journal.
The officials said Trump had supported the strike as a warning to Tehran over its attempts to disrupt the Strait of Hormuz, but now believes the message has been delivered. He is reportedly opposed to additional attacks on Iranian energy sites at this stage.
However, the position could shift depending on Iran’s future actions, particularly if tensions escalate again around the strategic waterway.
