Clashes between Cambodian and Thai forces have sharply escalated along contested border sectors near the Ta Muen Thom sanctuary area. Reports indicate that the Royal Cambodian Army launched multiple attacks on Thai Army positions using 122mm RM-70 and BM-21 “Grad” multiple rocket launch systems firing 9M22U artillery rockets.
Footage shared online shows sustained artillery exchanges and direct firefights between troops from both nations. The situation has forced the Thai Basic Education Commission (OBEC) to close schools and universities near the border in Surin Province, instructing students to take shelter in bunkers as a precaution against escalating violence.
This marks one of the most severe confrontations in recent years between the two countries, sparking concerns of a broader conflict in Southeast Asia if diplomatic intervention does not occur soon.
