The Israeli military has carried out large-scale strikes on Syrian regime forces in the Sweida region following deadly clashes targeting the Druze community. In a joint statement, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Israel Katz confirmed they ordered the IDF to hit “regime forces and weapons that were brought into the Sweida area,” citing violations of the demilitarization policy for southern Syria.
The IDF reports that multiple Syrian armored vehicles—including tanks, APCs, and rocket launchers—were destroyed, along with access routes, to prevent reinforcements from reaching the area. The strikes, described by an Israeli defense official as “exceptionally large-scale,” come amid escalating violence between Druze and Bedouin factions.
Israel emphasized its commitment to protecting the Druze population in Syria, citing deep historical and familial ties with Druze citizens in Israel. The military says it is continuing to monitor developments closely.
