🇮🇹 A tragic accident unfolded at Milan’s Orio al Serio Airport when a man, reportedly around 35 years old, was pulled into the engine of a Volotea Airbus A319 preparing for departure to Asturias, Spain. According to Corriere della Sera, it remains unclear whether the victim was an airport employee or a passenger.
Initial reports suggest the individual ran onto the tarmac and directly into the path of the aircraft. The airport operator, SACBO, described the situation as a “taxiway issue” and confirmed that an investigation is currently underway.
As a result of the incident, all flight operations at the airport were suspended. Nine inbound flights were diverted — six to Milan Malpensa, two to Verona, and one to Bologna — while eight departures were canceled. Passengers faced significant delays and disruptions as authorities managed the emergency response and began examining the circumstances surrounding the fatality.
The event has raised urgent questions about ground safety protocols and security measures on active runways.
