The death toll in “Operation Deterring Aggression” has risen to 446 military personnel and civilians, according to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights. Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) and allied factions have captured significant territories following the Syrian Army’s rapid withdrawal, including Aleppo city. The factions secured control after dual car bomb attacks, gaining the Aleppo International Airport, the Scientific Research Center, and other strategic sites.
In response, the Syrian Army has sent reinforcements to reestablish defensive lines in areas like Taybat al-Imam and northern Hama’s countryside.
Iran Sends Troops to Support Assad Amid Escalating Conflict
Israeli media reports that Iran has begun deploying forces to Syria to aid President Bashar al-Assad in countering armed groups in northern Syria. Western intelligence sources indicate that Hezbollah has redirected forces from Lebanon to Syria to protect key facilities. Iranian-backed militias, including the Iraqi Popular Mobilization Forces, have also crossed into Syria to bolster government defenses near Aleppo.
Turkey-Backed Syrian Forces Intensify Attacks on Kurdish Areas
The U.S.-backed Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) have called for the evacuation of Kurdish civilians from the Aleppo region to safer areas in northeast Syria. SDF leader Mazloum Abdi condemned Turkish-backed forces for cutting humanitarian corridors and warned of massacres in Tal Rifaat and al-Shahba.
Tal Rifaat, a majority-Arab town, now hosts over 200,000 displaced Kurds trapped by Turkish-aligned factions. These developments follow intensified Turkish operations, including the 2018 Afrin offensive.

As Iranian involvement in Syria grows, Israel has escalated airstrikes on Iranian and Hezbollah assets in the region, aiming to limit their military capabilities. Concurrently, Hezbollah’s presence in Aleppo is strengthening, as pro-Iranian forces struggle to counter opposition advances.
